I wanna change the world. I've always believed that I have a purpose and this was it. Change the world? Really Christian? I became COMPLETELY stumped when asked, "how are you going to change the world?" This moment of obscurity brought to light a revolutionary train of thought..
It's time to STOP trying to change the world. It's big and complex world out there. I'm a simple person with simple skills and abilities. So what to do from here. Pity party? Nah, I'll pass. Let's start with finding my mission...
A mission is a SPECIFIC calling that comes from within:
To invent a new technology platform
To master the art of communications
To create a low cost method of distribution of fruits and vegetables
To develop a cost-efficient way of implementing infrastructure that enables all populations (regardless of socioeconomic status) to have easy access to forms of physical activity
In other words, a mission is something that is bold, ambitious, and requests a personal stake and investment. It will likely take you a lifetime to achieve (in words, the journey's often never complete. It just has many unfolding chapters to the story). Of course you higher calling often generates a derivative impact and wide-scale contribution.
As you pursue your mission, you undoubtedly will:
a) teach others
b) make a difference
c) transform the world
BUT, you have to name your real mission, first. Find the bigger story.
This is your voice of defiance. It's something personal, vulnerable, and revealing. Your fears, doubts and insecurities are hard-wired into your genetic code. We gotta keep it simple because the clues to our specific mission are hiding in plain sight.
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." -Howard Thurman
Ask yourself two questions:
1) What do I want?
2) How am I going to get it?
If you have any thoughts you would like to share feel free! Any rebuttals also are welcome!!!
